The Power to Change Lives
Your support for Mercy Housing Southeast is making a tremendous difference in the lives of more than 5,000 residents in 45 communities across seven states. Together, we are building and managing vibrant, safe and affordable communities, and supporting residents so they can thrive every day. This work and your support in achieving it are more vital than ever.
The need for housing that is affordable and available for low-income seniors and working families is one of the Southeast’s greatest infrastructure needs. We see it in our cities and hear it from friends and loved ones. According to a study by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, there is a shortage of 1.2 million units of affordable housing in the southern region served by the FRB of Atlanta. Among low-income renters, more than two-thirds are cost-burdened, meaning they spend 50% or more of their income on housing.
Mercy Housing Southeast is working every day to meet these challenges. In 2019, we assembled sites and financing for over 240 affordable homes in three locations – the historic heart of Atlanta, the expansive redevelopment called Savannah Gardens, and in the Greenville, S.C., community of Mauldin. We have a goal of creating almost 1,000 new units over five years.
There is much more still to accomplish and all of us here at Mercy Housing Southeast are committed to playing a crucial role in building communities that are vibrant, safe, affordable and that contribute to housing equality in the communities we serve.
I am proud of the work we are doing and honored to be leading a team dedicated to creating affordable communities where residents can thrive.
