Stability for Youth

STABILITY FOR YOUTH THROUGH EDUCATION
As the pandemic continued, we introduced afterschool and summer camp programs for our youngest residents through our Out-of-School-Time (OST) programming. Our young learners received lessons in reading, math, arts, science, and social studies through onsite tutoring and mentoring. The curriculum was taught throughout the year to help students avoid learning loss when they weren’t in the classroom. 72 youth participated in the Out-of-School-Time programming in metro Atlanta and Savannah.
In the fall, we hosted Back-to-School Fairs and provided backpacks filled with school supplies and other resources to prepare families for the upcoming school year. To help close the digital divide, MHSE provided Chromebooks, high-speed internet, and technology training for online schooling, virtual enrichment, and other basic needs.

SUMMER FUN
When the temperature started to rise and summer appeared, MHSE offered an array of summer camp activities to keep the kids engaged including, art, dance, cooking demos, physical fitness, and more. We also provided summer meals.

GONE FISHIN'
MHSE coordinated a partner-led fishing trip to introduce youth to the great outdoors. They learned important skills to reinforce confidence, perseverance, and attentiveness.
